Historical Commission
Minutes
July 5, 2017
v. Monarch High School — yearbook for 2016-2017.
vi. Camille Begley — Book entitled "Coal Miners' Handbook" that belonged to the
donor's grandfather, Camillo di Domenico.
vii. Jo Louise Michaels— items believed to have been used to serve the annual
dinners at the St. Louis Catholic Church in the 1930s and 1940s; coasters from
the Bank of Louisville.
viii. Betty Scarpella — program for "Evening in Paris" dance, Louisville H.S., 1960.
B. Advice sought on donations of other artifacts being offered:
The City of Greeley Museums are deaccessioning items, including some that do not
have a connection to the City of Greeley, and offered to the Louisville Historical
Museum a table and four chairs that were from Celeste Romano's pool hall & soda
fountain at 809 Main in Louisville (most recently the location of the Waterloo).
These items were donated to the City of Greeley Museums in 1968. Bridget
proposed that the table and chairs be acquired for the Museum, but not added to
the permanent collection, at least not at this time, so that they can potentially be
used for Museum visitors in the future. The Commission approved of Bridget
arranging for the donation by the Greeley Museums.
C. Museum Coordinator's written report: In addition to her written report, Bridget
informed the Commission that there was an article in the Daily Camera on July
5th
about the Museum and the needs and process of getting a new building. Also,
Bridget is working on the next Louisville Historian to tie in with the 100th anniversary
of WWI and looking at the Louisville residents who served.
D. Historic Structure Assessments on the Museum buildings & the plan for seeking
funding to address identified deficiencies: The Historic Structure Assessment reports
were completed from the three buildings on the Museum campus, with funding from
the Historic Preservation Fund. The City's Planning Department staff reviewed the
reports and no revisions were requested. Bridget reported that it appears that some or
all of the critical deficiencies that were identified can be covered by a maintenance fund
in the current year budget, and funds for the remaining deficiencies will be sought
through the City's budget process.
VII. Update on process for conceptual design of new Visitor Center building:
Roybal, the firm making the conceptual design, has so far given two public presentations of
their three conceptual drawings: one at the open house on June 14th and one during the
joint Historical Commission and Historical Preservation Commission meeting on June 28th,
and they sought input at both forums. The public has also given input through the online
EngageLouisville site. The Roybal firm is now working on the presentation for the City
City of Louisville
Louisville Historical Museum 749 Main Street Louisville CO 80027
303-665-9048 (phone) 303-335-4550 (fax) www.louisville-library.org
