Louisville City Council Meeting December 21, 2004 Page 5 of 8 Mayor Sisk requested a Staff presentation. Recreation and Senior Service Director Keith Williams reported the 2005 Capital Improvement Budget has $120,000 directed toward lighting the tennis courts at Monarch High School, and any other improvements such as resurfacing, wind screens and netting. Although preliminary discussions indicated a financial sharing of resurfacing, wind screens and new netting of the tennis courts, school district officials have reported no direct funds will be available towards the tennis court improvement project. However, indirect support of the project would occur by the school district by managing the project with support from City Staff. Although $120,000 was budgeted towards the lighting of the tennis courts, it is hoped that budgeted funds through competitive bidding of the project can assist in the resurfacing, wind screens and new netting of the courts. As the project is underway, reports of the bidding process will occur and if additional funding is necessary to complete the project, additional discussion will occur with Council. Williams reported on the intergovernmental agreement with Boulder Valley School District for joint facility use by city programs and capital improvements to the Monarch High School Tennis Courts. He explained the facility use agreement has been reviewed again by the Boulder Valley School District and a new section under 8.5 had been added to reflect the following: "School District and City staff will determine acceptable operational procedures consistent with City and School District standards." COUNCIL COMMENT Council member Van Pelt asked if the sharing of the tennis courts was discussed. Williams stated the discussions centered on the lighting, and sharing the tennis courts. Council member Keany voiced his concern over the use of the tennis courts and stated his intent was to have more lighted courts for public use. He asked if this would be an issue in the future. Williams stated, based on past experiences with the school district, he did not believe it would be an issue. He explained the City and Monarch tennis courts would be monitored. Council member Van Pelt asked how the courts would be scheduled. Williams stated time would be scheduled for classes and for open tennis. MOTION: Council member Van Pelt moved for Council approval of the Agreement with Boulder Valley School District for Monarch High School Tennis Court Improvements, seconded by Council member Brown. Roll call vote was taken. The motion carded by a vote of 6-0. Council member Clabots was absent.
