Resource Conservation Advisory Board
Minutes
September 15, 2008
Mark Persichetti noted that Louisville Citizens for Community Involvement
encouraged the City to consider the single hauler system and now wants to take
on other related topics. There will be a meeting on Sunday, October 19 from 1:30
to 3:00 pm at the Arts Center in Memory Square Park. LRCAB board members
may attend as members of the public but may not represent LRCAB.
Gerry Christiansen asked whether the Resource Conservation Advisory Board
had participated in Boulder County's ClimateSmart program. It was noted that we
can make recommendations for the program through Dave Clabots, who is the
City's representative.
The ongoing sale of compact fluorescent light bulbs was discussed. Suggestions
were made to possibly donate bulbs to seniors, via the Lydia Morgan Center and
the Senior Center. Jenny Braus offered to ask Dave Clabots, who is on the
Senior Advisory Board about this issue. It was noted that bulbs could be sold at
the Festival of Lights.
Mark noted that we have $1250 in funding available for an exchange of
incandescent holiday lights for LEDs. We could distribute 250 vouchers worth $5
each. The incandescent lights could be functioning or not and would not be
tested. The incandescents could be recycled by either sending them to Ecocycle
with the bulbs removed or to a company in Fort Collins that would recycle the
lights with the bulbs attached.
Possible vendors for the LEDs would be drugstores, grocery stores and
hardware stores within the City. Mark offered to write a proposal letter and take it
around to all of the stores. He will also request that the stores do the recycling. If
not, LRCAB members will have to do it.
We need to start the LED program right after Halloween.
Mark suggested replacing the CFL program with the holiday light LED program
next year as most people interested in CFLs have bought them and, due the long
life of the CFL bulbs, won't be needing more any time soon.
Mark mentioned the Boulder County Resource Conservation Division, through its
Community Outreach Program, is offering funds for zero waste programs. Total
available funds are $50,000 with individual grants being $1,000 to $10,000. Grant
applications are due by October 28. Project funding will commence in January
2009. More information is available at
http://www. bouldercounty.org/recycling/cop/2009/cophome. htm.
LRCAB members were encouraged to think of organizations, individuals,
schools, and civic groups that might need funds.
