The following photo appeared in the Denver Post and shows a close-up of the sign: <br />The following photo, acquired online from the Blue Parrot's website, shows the sign while <br />illuminated. <br />This building was the longtime location of the Blue Parrot Restaurant, for about 98 years. <br />Mike Colacci (1886-1970) and Mary larussi Colacci (1899-1949), who were both born in <br />Italy and were part of Louisville's large Italian community, are believed to have started the <br />restaurant in the building that had previously been the site of Huber's Drug Store in about <br />1919. The Colacci establishment was also known, early on, by such names as Colacci's <br />Tavern and "Mike Calacci's Lunch & Short Orders." Records indicate that in about 1936, it <br />was then named the Blue Parrot Cafe. <br />The Blue Parrot Restaurant, which the Colacci family closed in early 2017, was an iconic <br />restaurant that helped put Louisville on the map, particularly during the period of the <br />1940s-1970s. Customers came from afar for the Blue Parrot's spaghetti, meatballs, and <br />sausage in a welcoming setting. The restaurant was the celebratory location for many <br />special occasions, including marriage proposals, birthdays, and Mothers Days. The Blue <br />2 <br />
