In the early 1940s, it was the location of the Hunter's Rest Club. By 1948, it had become <br />"Eddie's Bakery," as shown in a partial photo here in 1948: <br />Toney W. La Salle - 23 years. In 1950, Toney W. La Salle (1890-1973) purchased the site, but <br />evidence points to him already renting it. The building was the location of his furniture and <br />appliance store. He was the main supplier of household goods to Louisville residents, selling <br />everything "from mattresses to toasters," according to one resident. Another resident has <br />called the store "top-drawer" and it has been noted that many Louisville residents purchased <br />their first TV sets in his store. La Salle was from an Italian family and did very well for himself as <br />a local businessman.
