to the dates of construction of Louisville buildings, so other evidence is looked to. In this case,
the date of 1939 is likely to be correct. Evidence that the house was constructed prior to 1939
could not be located, and there was no structure shown in this location on the 1909 Drumm's
Wall Map of Louisville. Also, with new owners buying the lots in 1939 from a mine company, it
is understandable that they would have wanted to situate a house on the parcel at that time.
At the time of the April 1940 census, Alva and Murel Pierce were living in Louisville with Murel's
daughter from a previous marriage, Naomi Triplett, age 17. It appears that they were renting a
house near 724 Johnson, but this could not be confirmed. Alva Pierce's occupation was listed as
farmer. The 1943 directory does, however, show that they were living in the location of 724
Johnson by 1943. Alva was by then working as a meatcutter in a Louisville grocery store.
Malczyk Ownership, 1947-1977
In 1947, Frank Malczyk (1914-1990) and Marian June McAfee Malczyk (1920-1984) purchased
724 Johnson and resided in the house. The property still consisted of Lots 9-14. The Malczyks
owned it until 1977. Over the next several years, some of the lots would be sold off to others.
The following photo and ground layout sketch of the house are from the Boulder County
Assessor card that is dated 1948, at the time of the Malczyk ownership:
2
