Earliest Ownership and Connection to 1117 Spruce; Date of House Construction <br />Historically, the 1131 Spruce parcel was part of the property at 1117 Spruce. This was a <br />house to the north of 1131 Spruce and is shown on the 1909 map, above. <br />In 1925, Steve Evanoff, Sr. and Eva Evanoff purchased the 1117 Spruce property, which <br />at the time encompassed the parcel at what is now 1131 Spruce. Steve Evanoff had <br />been born in Bulgaria in about 1883 and was a coal miner in Louisville. Eva Evanoff was <br />born in Kansas in 1884. <br />Joe Restas acquired the parcel at what would become 1131 Spruce in 1940 from the <br />owner of 1117 Spruce, Steve Evanoff, Sr. According to the current owner, Restas and <br />Evanoff were friends and Restas asked Steve Evanoff if he could build a house on the <br />property, with the intention that 1131 Spruce would be transferred back to the Evanoff <br />family upon his death. <br />Steve Evanoff, Sr. died in 1952. In 1965, Joe Restas signed a quit claim deed conveying <br />his interest in 1131 Spruce to himself and Steve Evanoff, Jr. <br />Joe Restas Ownership, 1940 - 1971 <br />Joe Restas was born Hungary in 1881, and is believed to have been born in the village of <br />Bota, Hungary.
