Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
October 20, 2008
Mine Marker Program - Koertje is working to set up another meeting of the
subcommittee.
Green Build Pamphlet
Members reviewed the new layout of Lewis' pamphlet and made some corrections
and suggestions.
Koertje asked if specifics could be added to the footnotes/citations for clarification.
Lewis stated she would try to get that information
Muth stated she would try to put this information in one of the upcoming City
newsletters. She will bring an updated edition to the November meeting.
Why Preserve Pamphlet
Koertje stated he had created this draft to fit into the existing Preservation Handbook.
Members offered some suggestions regarding the draft.
Muckle asked if more information about Heritage Tourism and Louisville's historic
restaurants could be added.
Muth will bring an updated edition to the November meetixng.
Update on Demolition Requests
1237 LaFarge Avenue
Lewis stated that she and McMenamin had reviewed the house and released the
permit. It was difficult to accurately date the building and while the building did retain
a lot of original materials, it was unlikely to qualify for landmarking due to the
substantial changes made over the years and the lack of notable social history.
1200 Main Street Garage
Koertje stated that he and Tofte had reviewed the garage and while the building was
interesting and had a unique shape to it, it was unlikely to qualify for landmarking due
to the significant changes made the garage doors. The permit was released.
720 West Street
Muth noted that the review was to take place that morning but one member of the
subcommittee was unable to attend. A report will be made at the November meeting.
Discussion/Comments on Planning Department Referrals -None
Updates (time permitting)
836 & 844 Main Street -None
1024 LaFarge Avenue -stay expired 10/1/08
Muth reported that this would likely be demolished, but she had not heard specifically
that the demolition permit had yet to be issued.
824 South Place
