Open Space Advisory Board
Minutes
November 14, 2018
11. Discussion Item: OSAB Wayfinding Tiger Team Sign Re-Scoping
Recommendations
Laura reported on Tiger Team work on signage and pricing. See summary on page 39 of
the November OSAB Meeting packet. Missy asked if the signs proposed 2 years ago by
OSAB were way out of line with other signage being built & installed by other city entities
(e.g. parks) Ember said no, not particularly. Laura noted that the costly items are the ipe
wood posts and steel footings. The Tiger Team would like to support and empower staff
to re-evaluate and re -consider cost -saving options as they plan trail signage going
forward. OSAB members are in agreement. Missy noted that she opposes the Pilot Trail
approach.
12. Discussion Item: Coal Creek Trail at Aspen Way
Ember noted that Public Works is planning to re -pave Aspen Way and Roosevelt Ave..
They are proposing to pave the trail next to a section of the road (it's currently crusher
fines) as it is close to a residential neighborhood and there are no sidewalks on either
side of this section of streets (see summary, photos, and maps starting on page 40 of
the November OSAB Meeting packet). Neighbors do not support a sidewalk on the other
(inner curve) side of street. Laura commented that pavement here would be out of step
with wayfinding goals, as the Coal Creek trail is crusher fines throughout, including on
other sections which border roads. Peter said he's ok with a sidewalk. Missy noted that
this area is adjacent to a conservation easement and retaining crusher fines is more in
keeping with the rural character of the area. David commented that he supports retaining
crusher fines.
Laura made a motion to oppose paving the Coal Creek trail during the road re -paving
operation. Missy seconded. Motion passed with 4 votes in favor and one against.
13. Discussion Item: Updates to 2018 Goals
OSAB members commented on their goal areas (see page 46 of November OSAB
Meeting packet). Laura noted that we can wrap up this document in December meeting
as "2018 accomplishments".
14. Discussions Items for the Next Meeting on Wednesday, December 12, 2018
A. Draft template for 2019 Goals
B. Resolution of appreciation for Jim Gibb
C. Suggestions for the 2019 Open Space Education Program
D. Review adopted budget
15. Adjourn
The meeting adjourned at 8:42 pm.
