RIGGINS: You pled guilty. You accepted the terms of the conditions.

VICE
CHAIR:

The form does say whether "you have been convicted of a crime,
suspended sentence, deferred sentence..."

received a

KIMMETT:

This all happened because you were in a hurry to get to class?

HERBERT:

I have a problem with that, my life was kind of hectic. I was still going to school and
I was working. I couldn't be late for the class.

KIMMETT:

Yet you had time to stop and get movie tickets.

HERBERT:

Yeah, because I had a date.

KIMMETT:

It looks like you got your priorities mixed up.

KIMMETT:

How do you feel about all this? Did you learn anything from it?

HERBERT:

The first one, I learned my lesson. I was young and I shouldn't have done that. The
second time in 1992, just listen to what people say, don't argue if people are being
unfair to you, just take it. This one, I should have just been late.

Vice Chair asked Beatrice about her individual history. Beatrice explained that it was involving her
husband's being unfaithful and treating the family badly. Beatrice explained that she followed her husband
and that he was with another person and that she became very angry and physical. Beatrice was charged
with assault/battery and was made to pay $50.00 fine, 10 hours of community service and attend a conflict
management class.

RIGGINS:

What did you learn in conflict management classes?

BEATRICE:

They taught me that you have to learn to have control. You have to think about the
consequences. I always thought to myself when people have done things like that,
I say, I would never do anything like that, it's not my level of my society to grab
anybody's hair or make a scandal. But when you see what I saw, I thought about
what I and my family have suffered for a year and a half that made me very upset.
I learned control and I heard so many different cases from individuals. I would
recommend this class.

RIGGINS:

Would you recommend that type of class to your son?

BEATRICE:

Yes, I think so. I recommend him to be careful, better to lose a minute than to lose
your life. Sometimes teenagers don't listen, but we learn by what happens to us.
I know that Herbert would never attack anyone and he would never run away,
knowing that the police is behind him. He could be killed.

KIMMETT:

How do you propose to control serving alcohol to underage people?
