Non residential acreages for <br />commercial retail and office uses are represented as a total of 268 acres. <br />Existing policy reflects a high priority on the creation of additional roadway <br />connectivity between South 88th and South 96th Streets. The Opportunity Area <br />also recommends a regional retail development approximate to the intersection <br />of Tape Drive and So. 96th Street. Policv Amendment: 1. The City will pursue <br />opportunities to incorporate interchange improvements at the intersection of <br />South 88th Street and US 36. <br />Opportunity Areas # 5/6 -Should maintain important gateway attributes serving <br />the community's need for commercial and employment uses, as well as transit <br />oriented development within close proximity to transit facilities. A Transit <br />Development Overlay was added to Opportunity Area #5, west of McCaslin Blvd. <br />in support of a future bus rapid transit station on the US 36 Corridor. The Plan <br />reflects an associated residential unit count of 134 residential units in Area #5. <br />Opportunity Area # 6 is designated for commercial retail, commercial office. <br />Policv Amendment: Language was dropped from Opportunity Area #6 which <br />referred to higher density residential development within the Centennial Valley <br />Parkway loop. <br />Opportunity Area # 7 -Should provide new housing options and provide a <br />transition to adjacent county lands. If parcels west of McCaslin Boulevard are <br />annexed in the future, lower densities should be maintained to preserve rural <br />character and view corridors. Policv Amendment: Language which referred to <br />the Gateway Subdivision has been dropped. <br />ECONOMIC DEVELOMENT: Based upon input received from the Business <br />Retention Committee, Downtown Business Association, and Edge Consulting a <br />number of new policies have been incorporated into this Plan element. Policv <br />Amendment: <br />1. Policies ED-1.3 through ED-1.6 have been added which focus on the <br />creation of primary jobs, expansion of existing business, business <br />assistance, and business retention. <br />2. Under Principal ED-3, Policies ED-3.5 and ED-3.6 have been added which <br />reflect the need to manage a successful range of economic development <br />services. <br />3. Policies ED-4.3 and ED-4.4 have been added which state the need to <br />participate at a regional and state level in activities which promote <br />Louisville. <br />HOUSING: The Senior Advisory Board worked closely with the Planning Division <br />to provide input on the need for additional senior housing. Introduced into <br />Chapter Two, the concept of "visitability" is an international movement to change <br />home construction practices so that all new homes offer accessibility features <br />which would support residents with mobility impairments.
