<br /> <br />WANTED: PLASTIC BAGS <br /> <br />The Parks Department is asking for a <br />your continued support in supplying .. ' <br />doggie bags for parks, trails, and open space - <br />dispensers. Please feel free to restock your' , <br />favorite dispenser with your recycled plastic <br />bags. If more convenient, a collection <br />can has been setup at the Recreation <br />Center. With a little help from you <br />we can help out our environment and <br />save a little money in the process! <br /> <br /> <br />2009 TRAIL CONNECTIONS <br /> <br />In 2009 the Parks and Recreation Department <br />will continue its commitment to trail connectivity <br />by completing several trail connections. Some of these <br />connections link neighborhoods, some link one trail to <br />another, and others provide links to city facilities. All of <br />them were identified as priorities by the public and will <br />greatly improve connectivity throughout the trail system. <br />Below is a list of 2009 projects. For more information, <br />or to view maps of the trail alignments, please visit the <br />City web site at www.ci.louisville.co.us and visit the trails <br />section of the Parks & Recreation page. <br />Recreation Center Trail Connection (completed) - <br />a new concrete trail southeast of the Recreation Center <br />that connects the parking lot to the concrete trail at the <br />bottom of the hill. <br />Daughenbaugh Bridge & Trail Connection - a new <br />bridge over the Goodhue Ditch connecting the Daugh- <br />enbaugh & Warembourg Open Space properties. <br />Sycamore Court Trail Connection - connects Syca- <br />more Court to the main trail system. <br />Stock Pond Trail- a narrow crusher fines trail along <br />the stock pond dam will connect the northern trail on <br />the Warembourg Open Space to the Fishing Pond trail. <br />Jefferson Avenue <br />- a narrow crusher fines trail will formalize the existing <br />connects Jefferson Avenue to the Coal <br />Creek Trail. <br />June 6th is National Trails Day! Get out and celebrate by <br />enjoying your favorite trails. Check the City's web site for <br />volunteer opportunities. <br /> <br /> <br />ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION <br /> <br />The Parks and Recreation Department and the <br />Horticulture and Forestry Advisory Board an- <br />nounce the 2009 Arbor Day Celebration Saturday, <br />April 18th, 11:00 AM to 1:00 <br />PM at the Arboretum. <br />Come celebrate trees and all <br />the benefits they provide to our <br />environment and well-being. Hot <br />dogs, chips, and beverages will be <br />served. A volunteer tree plant- <br />ing will take place from 9:00 <br />to 11:00 AM. All citizens are encouraged to participate. <br />Please call 303.335,4733 to confirm your participation. <br />IS of Via Appia, between <br />the Police building and the Recreation Center. Please use <br />the parking lot at the Skate Park or the Recreation Center <br />and take the foot bridge into the Arboretum. <br />City Forester along with members of the City's <br />Horticulture and Forestry Advisory Board will be on <br />hand to answer questions! Please look for more details on <br />the City's web site in late March. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />A NEW LOOK <br /> <br />Many of the park signs throughout town are <br />over 25 years old and have been repainted and <br />repaired too many times to count. Many other parks and <br />open space properties aren't signed at all. In 2007, new <br />signs were installed at the David- <br />public <br />was relieved to finally know its <br />name! Also in 2007, new rules <br />and regulation signs were placed <br />throughout the open space and <br />trails system to help visitors identify where they are.
