Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
June 28, 2021
When considering all of these intermediate goals, staff and the RAB will need to
balance possible options. The Louisville Outdoor Amenities Survey (2019) is a
starting place to consider community needs. If alternate locations for courts need
to be considered, the area near the police station is a possibility.
Staff Updates
Nathan provided general staff updates and information about the Rec Center.
• The possibility of in -person board meetings will be discussed by the City
Council in July. Nathan anticipates that in -person meetings, possibly with a
hybrid component, may begin in September.
• The Memory Square toilets are now all operational. Repairs were made to
change to a more reliable flushing mechanism.
• The golf course will not be open to the public to view the 41" of July fireworks.
A special display will reach a high elevation in order to accommodate more city-
wide viewing. Residents are encouraged to view from home or from suggested
viewing locations. One of these is the area around the Rec Center.
• Kathy Martin continues to monitor the Rec Center facility usage, extending
hours when this decision is supported by usage.
• The Rec Center will be closed on Labor Day. The parking lot will be the staging
area for the Labor Day parade, which will be rerouted due to closures on Main
Street. Memory Square pool will be open, with normal daily fees.
David Baril reported that the golf course has been very busy.
• There is greater participation in all leagues. Beginner programs are full, and
instructors have full schedules. He is considering working with more
independent contractor instructors.
• David reported that the sale of range balls has increased substantially.
• This summer the golf course will host a CGA amateur qualifier, a CGA women's
mashie, and the boy's regional championship in August. These events provide
good recognition and publicity for the golf course.
• A water heater recently broke at the restaurant, but it should be fixed soon.
David Dean reported that the golf course is generally in good shape, even though
many people are playing.
• He was able to hire more employees by posting part-time jobs. The new
employees are working on some of the projects that weren't done last year,
such as edging bunkers.
• There has been substantial work on the irrigation system.
Ginger Cross reported that she is working on the fall catalog.
