Ralph Grunkemeyer died of a heart attack in 1954 at the end of a day spent on
Horsetooth Reservoir near Fort Collins. According to his obituary in the Louisville Times,
besides being a prominent business owner, he had become involved in civic affairs and
had been elected to (and served as president of) the board of the Sanitation District in
the early 1950s when Louisville was seeking funding from voters for a sewage system.
Helen Grunkemeyer continued to live at 601 McKinley with her children. According to
her obituary, Helen worked as a registered nurse and retired in 1974. She sold the
Bungalow Drug business itself in 1954, but owned the Bungalow Drug building until
1973. It was torn down that year to make way for the City Hall parking lot.
The following images show the photo of the house from the 1948 County Assessor card
and a ground layout sketch of the house at that time.
GROUND PLAN SKETCH /
!JNDIAMBR CYL Nu[6TOR[!
