Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
August 23, 2021
Page 3of5
• The updated Senior Resource Guide has been disseminated in a variety of
ways. In addition, staff has supported seniors with resource calls, outreach and
care calls, and medical equipment loans.
Katie Beasley reported that the fall would bring increased services.
• Staff will reintroduce more programs, provide two-day trips per month, and
provide events to promote wellness and customer appreciation.
• Seniors will be able to enjoy special holiday events.
Board members expressed appreciation for the Senior Center staff and their excellent
work in providing support, activities, programs, and food for the seniors in the
community.
Golf Course Update
Nathan reported that the Golf Course Subcommittee met and talked about
programming needs and facility needs. The committee plans to meet every two to
three weeks. Several immediate goals are to create a project timeline and an RFP
for financial feasibility. The Subcommittee will report back to the Board at our next
meeting.
Board members talked about the possibility of making the clubhouse more spacious
by building a multistory building with more floors. If the clubhouse has to stay in the
current location, that would be a way to increase its capacity. Parking spaces would
also need to be maximized, and staff could consider ideas to encourage people to
carpool. David Baril reported that cars overflowed into the neighboring area ten times
last year.
David Baril reported that the storage area for the golf carts is inadequate, with 65
carts crammed into a space that was designed to hold 50 carts. The Golf Course has
issued an RFP to install a new artificial range tee on a concrete pad, with the hope
of installation before the end of the year. Golf course attendance continues to exceed
expectations.
David Dean reported that hybrid mowers might be a possibility for the golf course at
some point in the future. Electric mowers might be a good option for the greens. The
equipment would need to be reliable and cost-effective.
Nathan reported that the golf course uses a combination of organic and chemical
controls. An organic -only management system would be too costly and labor-
intensive. The golf course is pursuing Audubon certification, designated for protecting
natural areas and wildlife habitats.
Ginger Cross reported that the golf survey would be included in the September
newsletter. The survey consists of general questions about the golf course and
specific questions about a potential new clubhouse.
4
