ii. Questions:
1. Will patrons know to read multiple policies (Code of
conduct + Youth services) to get to all the info?
a. Concern to single out children and teens that
they're subject to different expectations. Don't want
to send the message that children and teens are a
problem.
b. Decision to move forward with "All patrons are
subject to the Louisville Library code of Conduct"
under the "Use of Children's area and teen loft"
section.
b. Volunteer policy
i. Got feedback from HR dept and city attorney
ii. Original policy felt more like "handbook", tried to make the policy
focused on policy only. Seperate project maybe next year to revisit
the volunteer handbook. Make it more robust.
iii. Could we revisit Intellectual Property assertion? Make it more
clear/narrow, something like "at the request / under the direction of
Library staff' to clarify that it's limited to work done while actively
volunteering.
c. Next meeting Erin Owen will bring the final version for each policy for
voting.
C. Introduction: Kristen Bodine, Youth Services Supervisor
a. Been with the library for 9 years.
b. Philosophy - all are welcome. Good gathering and community space, a
place to meet up with friends and make new friends. Also find info and
entertainment that they seek. Make it feel like an extension of home.
Welcome and calm and build connections. Staff's goal is to get to know
patrons, build connections, and follow up. Here to help kids and teens
grow and thrive. Storytimes - early literacy. Through high schoolers -
programs on choosing colleges / standardized tests.
c. EDII - thinking about making sure the collection is vibrant and diverse.
Windows and mirrors for kids. See yourself in a book and get exposure to
people who are different from yourself.
D. 2022 Programming Goals
a. Library staff and foundation interested in increasing the number and
engagement in programming. Proposal to start working with the
foundation board a little bit earlier to get the budget approved earlier.
Current timeline means by the time the budget is approved, the big
summer reading performers are already booked.
b. Try to figure out what adults in the community would like re:
programming. KPI is participants per program, but also bodies in the
door. Maybe will do First Fridays next year.
c. Send any program ideas to Director Nemechek.
d. Multicultural art and events and programs. Making sure we are bringing
programs that align with the city's DEI values. Have gotten feedback that
the city only celebrates some things (i.e. Pride months vs other months).
E. November Meeting Date
