City Council
Meeting Minutes
October 5, 2021
Mayor Pro Tern Maloney stated this report shows the alignment between City Council and
economic vitality at the staff work. He appreciates the work his colleagues are doing in
the EVC and working with staff.
REGULAR BUSINESS
EQUITY, DIVERSITY, INCLUSION TASK FORCE UPDATE
Anthony Graves, Graves Civic Solutions, informed Council that there have been two EDI
Task Force meetings since the last time he updated Council. There were five focus
groups conducted with 23 participants. The participants are ethnically diverse,
representative of gender diversity, LGBTQIA+ members, diverse in age as well as
disabilities. The EDI Task Force assessed the information and distilled it into themes for
recommendations for future Council action.
He reviewed the five areas the task force identified for Council to take action on: safe &
welcoming environment with language justice, housing, public accommodation/access to
services, youth engagement, and public health. He listed proposed short term actions and
longer term actions in the recommendations.
The final report is anticipated for November 1, 2021.
Mayor Stolzmann thanked Mr. Graves for his work especially the approach of identifying
the five areas of concerns and then offering paths forward on those areas. It helps to see
corrective measures that can be taken.
Councilmember Brown thanked the members of the EDI Task Force and everyone who
participated in the focus groups. He acknowledged that some of the information was
difficult to hear but that doesn't mean it was incorrect. He is looking forward to utilizing the
recommendations of the task force to make Louisville more inclusive.
Councilmember Leh appreciated the presentation and thanked everyone on the task
force. He appreciated everyone putting themselves out there to provide information. Mr.
Graves responded that it took tremendous courage for task force and focus group
members to share their experiences the report includes some specific scenarios and
anonymous quotes.
Councilmember Dickinson thanked Mr. Graves for the presentation and the work he has
been doing the past several months. He noted how complicated the solutions are and
how many players are involved i.e. the school district. He stated it is helpful to get to
some strategies to get to a better future.
Public Comments — None
