Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
May 18, 2009

Whiteman asked for a vote on sensitive residential addition. The Commission
voted fro 841 Lincoln Avenue (passed 5 to 0, Stewart recused due to previous
involvement with the project).

The Commission also unanimously (6 to 0) voted for OLl as the winner of the
Preservation/Restoration category for a commercial building.

Whiteman than asked for a vote on the choice for Preservation/Restoration in the
residential category.

Muth recommended that the Commission add 701 Garfield, 941 Garfield and 823
Garfield into this category. Muth asked what the Commission thought about
including 1145 Main Street?

Lewis thought it might be good to include 1145 Main because of the exposure it
would provide and because there is so much development pressure on Main
Street.

Muckle asked if the Commission could nominate two structures?

Whiteman recommended that they take a vote on two structures.

Following a verbal vote, the Commission chose 823 Garfield Avenue and 1145
Main Street for Preservation/Restoration in the residential category.

Whiteman then announced the adaptive reuse category and stated he would be
voting for 921 Main Street.

Stewart stated he felt the State Mercantile (801 Main Street) was a good
example of preservation. He also stated that 921 Main Street might have had too
many alterations.

Following a verbal vote, the Commission chose 801 Main Street for Adaptive
Reuse category.

Whiteman introduced the Preservation of Historical Element category.

Lewis stated that she would like to see the Silo chosen. The rest of the
Commission stated they would like to see the Empire Sign because there have
been numerous owners of the building and all of them have worked at retaining
the sign in its place. A verbal vote was cast and the Commission unanimously
approved the Empire Sign (6 to 0).
