Even
though several members have pointed out that
we will be high for the next two years, we
will slack off in the next years. But felt
that we should not wait and pay for the mistakes
down the road, but that we should worry about
the impact this year and next year.

Councilman Leary

So if this body were to strike up some com-
promise among itself or with the signers of
the petitions that would satisfy your concern
about growth and should this annexation come
back in the near future - you may not have
the same problem?
Mrs. Johnson replied - possibly.

Councilman Cummings

Commented that he did not receive a copy of
the cover letter that accompanied the petition.
Mrs. Johnson assured him that it had been
presented with the petitions and the correct
procedure had been followed.

Councilwoman Morris

Inquired of City Clerk Mudrock when the
signatures would be verified.
The reply was Wednesday afternoon, 7/20/83.
Morris then inquired if this issue would be
discussed at the next council meeting.
Attorney Rautenstraus advised that it would,
and in answer to Councilman Cussen's inquiry
150 signatures are required.

Councilman Cussen

Inquired of Mrs. Johnson if the petition
represented people throughout the entire city.
She replied that it did.- had approximately
12 people who volunteered to circulate the
petition and they had a map of the City with
them. They covered Hillsborough North and West,
the downtown area and the new subdivisions.
It was her feeling that the majority of the
signatures were obtained from the older section
of the City. It was just not the new people
that are trying to cause trouble.

Councilman Cummings

Felt that the entire City had not been repre-
sented and that most of the signatures did
not come from the older section of the City.
