Was
not certain if the costs would be more or less
if it was the airport expansion or something
else. Also felt that there was more to the
issue than presented by Commerce City repre-
sentatives.

ENDORSE ARSENAL EXPANSION

Councilman Leary moved, Councilman Cussen
seconded that our representative be directed
to cast at least the first vote for the Arsenal
site and use his good judgement if additional
votes are necessary.

Councilman Fauson

Commented that he concurred with one of the
statemets made by the representatives of
Commerce City that records were not kept of
dump sites. He had worked at the Rocky Mtn.
Arsenal during the productive years and the
hazardous materials were dumped haphazardly
throughout the area. It was mind boggling to
him to envision the costs involved in the
clean-uPr therefore could not in good faith
go with the Arsenal site.

Mayor Meier

Commented that he had been through a monumental
amount of reports and information on the issue
and the costs of the containment and clean-up
were discussed, as well as the runway patterns,
the asphalt pavement structures that would be
in place, the ground water problems could be
resolved, and had weighed both sides of the
issue, felt the best alternative was the Arsenal
site at this time.

Councilman Cummings

Commented he knew that the Arsenal was one
of the issues, but felt it was a sideliner
felt the main issue was a business matter.
The Arsenal must be cleaned up either by the
government or the people building the air-
port. As for the Bennett site causing urban
sprawl was true - then on the other side of
the issue nothing could be built on the east
side of the Arsenal; therefore did not feel
our City should become involved. Felt that
both presentations were very good. Did not
feel that anyone was that knowledgeable on
the issue - depended upon whose study was
read - felt that for intergovernmental re-
lations until it is worked out among the
