<br />6/21/83 <br /> <br />Page -5- <br /> <br />The upper half of the Airport would revert <br />to the Federal Government because it was <br />deeded to the City of Denver for specific <br />airport usage, if it was not used for this <br />purpose, only approximately 2,000 acres <br />could be sold. Secondly that money would not <br />go to the new airport but to the City and <br />County of Denver and if the new airport were <br />constructed in Bennett the City and County <br />of Denver would not own it. He felt the <br />economic impact would be great for Denver <br />if the airport were located elsewhere. Also <br />stated that Governor Lamm, Mayor McNichols <br />as well as the new Mayoral candidate favored <br />the expansion onto the Arsenal. All the <br />major airlines favored it, and may not even <br />go to Bennett if one is built. <br /> <br />Discussion by council as to the containment <br />of contamination wastes, land use plan for <br />urban sprawl, and cost comparisons of the <br />two site.s with time frame of completion in <br />the year 2002. <br /> <br />Mr. Allen again reiterated the urgency for <br />a resolution of support before the DRCOG <br />vote. <br /> <br />NO RESOLUTION DRAFTED IN <br />SUPPORT OF ROCKY MOUNTAIN <br />ARSENAL PHASING EXPANSION <br /> <br />Mayor Meier advised that representatives <br />from Commerce City would be present at the <br />next Council meeting to express their views <br />on the airport issue, therefore did not feel <br />a resolution should be drafted until council <br />had an opportunity to hear their representa- <br />tion. Also invited councilmembers to attend <br />the July 6th hearing at DRCOG with him. <br /> <br />AUDIENCE COMMENTS <br />Sue Forrest <br /> <br />Advised Council that she was in attendance <br />in reference to the Hillsborough West Park. <br />In November of 1982 they began collecting <br />money for equipment for tl!e.--_ --. _. -- <br />park and_ nothing has been done by the <br />City to begin construction;the residents in <br />the area were very displeased. Some of the <br />donors had moved from the area and were unable <br />to view any of the equipment. The first <br />plan by the City was in March, then April, <br />at another council meeting May was mentioned <br />and recently the schedule is for July-wanted <br />to know a definite time when tfte park equip- <br />ment would be installed. Would like to be <br />informed also when the park is going to get <br />
