Main St. Waterline Replacement

Tom Thompson, President
LDC

CITY ATTORNEY'S REPORT
MAYOR'S PROCLAMATION
SMALL BUSINESS WEEK 1983

ORDINANCE #795 - WASTEWATER
REGULATION - PUBLIC HEARING

Page -7-

It was his understanding that the replace-
ment of the water line could cause a stress
on certain type of piping coming from the
main to businesses and homes. Was his
feeling it was whether they had galvanized
or copper piping. Was requested by members
to inquire of Council if this is true, and
if so, if it would not be beneficial to
notify the property owners of the potentiality
of any expense on their part to replace the
lines from the main.
Administrator Wurl stated the City's policy
is that if we are required to replace the
service line from the main in, the City
will replace that section from the main to
the property line and curb valve.
Mr. Fowler inquired if there were any records
of the owners from the junction box into the
individual establishments showing what type
piping is presently there? And if the current
owner is unaware of that, would it be feasible
to make them aware of it that they may have
to incur expense to replace that?
Administrator Wurl advised that if there is
a problem from the curb valve into the property
then it is the owner's responsibility.
Mr. Fowler wished information to relay to
the owners as to the type piping existed
and if they would have to incur the expense.
Wurl advised in all possibility most of the
owners had galvanized piping; the staff
would distribute notices when this will be
done and perhaps precautions can be taken
so that there will be no pressure breaks.

Wished to thank Council very much for their
consideration and funding request granted
to the LDC.

Councilmembers had a copy of the proclama-
tion and Mayor Meier read it in its entirety,
then presented it to Mr. Doug Fowler, Presi-
dent of the Chamber of Commerce.

Councilmembers had a copy of the ordinance;
Attorney Rautenstraus read it hy title only
on second reading and public hearing, also
certified proper publication.
