City Council
Meeting Minutes
February 17, 2009

REGULAR BUSINESS

DISCUSSION/DIRECTION/ACTION - JOHN BREAUX MEMORIAL

Mayor Sisk recognized David Bright (John Breaux's brother), his sister-in-law and
two nieces. He also recognized Larry and Crystal Farnsworth who dedicated
themselves to collecting donations for a John Breaux memorial. He noted the
donations were collected from citizens from the cities of Louisville and Lafayette.

Crystal Farnsworth stated they dedicated themselves to collect donations for a
memorial as a tribute to John Breaux. She noted the generosity of the citizens of
Louisville and Lafayette and stated there were many touching stories about John.

Larry Farnsworth stated the donations paid for John's funeral expenses. He
presented a check to the City for $9,000, for a monument for John Breaux.

Public Relations Manager Muth explained the City has received numerous
suggestions of ways to memorialize John. The Staff compiled a list, but no official
plans have been made. Staff will work with John's family to be sure they are
supportive of any plans. Staff recommends the City proceed with two plans:

1. John Breaux Spring Clean-up: Coordinate with City of Lafayette Staff to
explore possible dates for a kick-off event jointly staged by both
communities. Included in the clean-up days would be T-Shirts in memory
of John, breakfast in the park, followed by a citywide cleanup in each
municipality. Louisville would contribute Staff and funding for the event
this year, and funding for 2010 would be a budget consideration.

2. Statue/Memorial. Staff will begin looking into cost and location regarding
a memorial. Once more information is obtained details will be brought
back to City Council for further discussion.

Different departments have received requests for various Adopt-a-Road, Trail or
Park in John's honor. At this time, Staff is collecting the information, but will not
approve any requests until John's family can determine what they would like.

City Manager Fleming noted the cleanup would not be just one day or in one
location, but in numerous locations and over a series of days throughout the
year.

PUBLIC COMMENT
