<br />City Council <br />Meeting Minutes <br />May 5,2009 <br />Page 4 of 12 <br /> <br />She presented an outline of the City's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and <br />threats and reviewed the major near-term economic development activities as <br />follows: <br /> <br />· Draft a Strategic Economic Development Plan <br />· LRC planned field trip, refine commission's vision for uses and density in <br />Highway 42 Revitalization Area <br />· Visit property owners in Highway 42 Revitalization Area <br />· Fill the Post Office Building <br />· Partner with Chamber, DBA, on business-building activities like a <br />mentoring program, downtown patios and marketing <br />· Participation in ICSC retail convention <br />· Daily follow-up on Economic Development leads <br />· Review of Business Assistance Program, possible minor revisions <br /> <br />COUNCIL COMMENT <br /> <br />Councilor Muckle voiced his belief that the item listed "concern about any growth" <br />is not an issue because people are not concerned about "any" growth but they do <br />what to make sure that growth is consistent with the community values. He <br />questioned Louisville Revitalization Commission field trips to examine density <br />and noted the density was established in the Highway 42 area after a long public <br />involvement process. <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk stated it is reasonable for the LRC to look at what other cities are <br />doing in terms of density. He stressed companies who are considering moving to <br />a City like to see vitality in the community. <br /> <br />HISTORIC PRESERVATION COMMISSION UPDATE ON HECLA MINE <br />CASINO BUILDING <br /> <br />Mayor Sisk requested a presentation. <br /> <br />Public Relations Manager Muth updated Council on the Historic Preservation <br />Commission's work to find a new home for the Hecla Mine Casino Building. She <br />explained the Hecla Mine Casino is located behind King Soopers Shopping <br />Center and is owned by Michael Schonbrun. The stay of demolition on the <br />property has expired, however Mr. Schonbrun is working with the Commission to <br />help locate a possible new owner and location for the building. <br /> <br />Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) member Heather Lewis presented a <br />PowerPoint overview of the history of the Hecla Mine, which was located on <br />Highway 42 and South Boulder Road. The Hecla Mine was in operation from <br />1890 and the casino was constructed in 1910 and remained in operation until <br />
