Administrator Wurl Councilman Leary 50% CHANGED TO 30% PAYMENT OF SICK LEAVE Mayor Meier Accural of Vacation Leave Councilman Ferrera Administrator Wurl Councilwoman Morris 12/21/82 Page -8- Commented it was his understanding that the incentive goal was for the employee to accrue sick days and receive payment for them when he/she retires or quits. Reiterated his inquiry of what the financial implications are of sick leave versus dis- ability insurance. Chief Accountant Caranci advised that the disability insurance per employee was $17.00 per month, which would be less expensive. However, the employee could save his sick pay and receive 50% when he has accrued over 120 days. Councilman Leary moved, Mayor Meier seconded that employees will receive payment of 30% of any sick leave days accrued over 120 days in lieu of 50% as stated in the proposal. Roll call vote: Fauson Meier Ferrera Cummings Leary Cussen Morris Motion carried 4-3. No Yes No Yes Yes No Yes Referred to section 5-7 E. Commented he felt the carry-over vacation days were excessive, i.e. 11-20 years 160 hours, and ultimately 320 hours. Disagreed,felt that if ani employee wished to accumulate 320 hours after 20 years, it would enable him to take an extended vacation to tour, i.e. Europe for 4 weeks, and would have a remaining 4 weeks for the rest of the year, at various intervals. Supported Councilman Ferrera's comment, as it rarely occurs and to date had not placed a hardship on any of the departments. Inquired in section 2.4 Personnel Division - "review shall be conducted by the personnel division," who was the personnel division. Wurl advised he was.
