City Council Minutes

KAH AN :

MEIER:

AMERICAN LEGION,
SPECIAL EVENTS
LIQUOR LICENSE

HENRY TOBIN, NUCLEAR
WAR EDUCATION
COMMITTEE

August 3, 1982

Page 8

independent of other organizations, to reassess
our Comp Plan and obviously the scope of what is
desirable is much less than needed to occupy
the 1 and. Homa rt is not the one who wi 11 be
telling us what the land use will be in the
reassessment.

I would hope you would be as gracious in a sense
of victory to understand what we are really
saying is that in order for us to understand
what we are going to' present intelligently, we
have to go through a planning process, but not
without the aid of the consultant that Homart
has, and when we come to conclusions, then we
come to you for permission.

Thanked Mr. Martin and Mr. Kahan for their
briefing and explanation regarding the
Centennial Valley Mall.

A brief recess was called. Mayor re-opened the mtg.

Motion by Morris to set August 17,1982, for a
public hearing for the American Legion, Special
Events Liquor License. Seconded by Fauson.
All in favor. Motion carried unanimously.

Henry Tobin, a member of the Boulder County
Nuclear War Education Committee said this was
formed by the County Commissioners in April
following March hearings on Denver Metro Crisis
Relocation plans. The Commissioners rejected the
Crisis relocation palns, and due to strong turnout,
the commissioners appointed this committee.
This is to urge citizen involvement in working
toward multi-lateral disarmament, and the con-
sequences of a nuclear attack. A booklet has
been prepared for all the citizens of Boulder
County. Tobin is asking for public input and
review before the booklet goes to the publisher.
There will be a pUblic hearing in Boulder August
5, 1982 at 3 PM and all are invited to attend,
bringing any comments they may have on the book-
let. Tobin distributed a letter showing the
costs of printing, mailing, etc. and Louisville1s
suggested contribution is $100 of cost sharing,
with Boulder County contibuting the bulk of the
cost.

Questions from Council and answers from Mr. Tobin.
Discussion followed regarding the $100 donation,
not necessarily the support of the program; how-
ever some councilmembers believed it to be politi-
cal in nature.
