5/4/82 Page .,..12.,.. further stated even though the increase would be 2 years away, perhaps in a year he could support it, if the City is in a better financial conditi6n, but at this time felt it was premature. Councilman Cummings Concurred with Councilman Leary and didn't feel the need had been established. He felt it ~ras wrong. Other rates were being increased with justification, and would vote against the ordinance. Councilman Fauson Commented he wished to speak to Councilman Leary's statement that Council would be raising their salaries. He felt the ordinance would not increase the present Council's salary but that of the oncoming Council. Responded he was aware of this, but still felt unl€~ss the financial condition improves Council should wait until September of the year before the next election, if affordable at that time, Council can do it. Councilman Leary Mayor Meier Commented the only reason he asked this ordinance be prepared, not to see that the next Council received a salary increase, but to r€~mind members that this was a typographical error in an ordinance. The last time it was prepared and present councilmembers were supposed to be receiving this increase when they assumed office. ROLL CALL VOTE MOTION DEFEATED TO PUBLISH ORDINANCE #758 Roll Call Vote: YES: Fauson, Morris NO: Leary, Ferrera, Meier, Cussen, Cummings Motion defeated 5-2. ORDINANCE #759 - WATER AND WASTEWATER TAP FEES Mayor and Councilmembers had a copy of the ordinance before them. Attorney Rautenstraus read the ordinance by title only on first reading and the request was for publication. Commented the last time a tap fee increase ordinance was presented, it contained an emergency clause, would it be wise to do this? Rautenstraus replied it is not normally done unless it .is necessary. Mayor Meier
