11/5/81

Page -8-

water is placed into a tank similar to
a ceptic tank, then it is trucked off
so nothLng goes into the soil area.
Councilman Meier then inquired about the
mineral deposits that are taken from the
well; also inquired what size hole was
drilled.
McCoy advised an 8 5/8ths casing is placed
in the well to about 600-700 ft.; it is
cemented off at that point so there is
no communications from the water within
the well or the waters above this point.
Beyond the 600-700 ft. level a 4~" casing
is used down to 8,000 ft. then is cemented
off again preventing communication between
surface soils or underground waters.
Councilman Meier then inquired what is
done with the soil that is removed from
the well.
McCoy advised the drilling mud is placed
in a holding pond that is dug which is
approximately 150' x 100' pit. When
drilling is complete this is trucked off
to a disposal site, then backfill the
pit to its original state.

Councilman Brown

Inquired what the pressure was in the
pipelines, and where do they run.
McCoy advised approximate 240 pounds, and
eventually would end at Panhandle's pipe
line north of Louisville. Right-of-ways
are obtained from everyone in the process.
Councilman Brown then inquired if there
was a possibility of the pipeline going
thru residential areas.
NcCoy stated this possibility was remote.

Councilman Fauson

Inquired if his company intended to drill
24 hours a day for 15 days; if the drilling
was done with diesel oil. He expressed
concern about the noise level of the drilling
near a residential area.
McCoy advised he surveyed the area and in
his opinion the nearest residence was 2,000-
3,000 ft. The State's requirement is 600'
from a residence.
