Recreation Advisory Board
Minutes
March 28, 2022
Board members want to make sure that the proposed scenarios for the
clubhouse and golf course match the goals of the golf pros, the Rec Center
Advisory Board, and the golfing community. For example, one common goal
is to have a larger dining area. Some of the NGF proposed scenarios do not
include this. RAB members stated that it's important to get things right and
have the desired amenities in the plans.
David Dean reported that the clean-up from the Marshall fire is progressing
well. The damaged, hazardous trees have been removed, although some
clean-up remains. Fencing has been set up around the native grass areas
that were burned, and severely burned areas have been covered with mulch.
The irrigation system has been repaired and is ready to be tested. Mary, from
the Parks Department, will help with recommendations for flowers and plants
for the garden near the Clubhouse. David hopes to hire enough workers for
the summer. There will be a job fair on March 30.
The deck of the the Clubhouse was damaged by the Marshall fire, and it will
need significant repair. The fire weakened the structure, and the I -beams will
need to be replaced, along with other parts of the deck.
Ginger Cross reported that the season pass push, usually scheduled in
March, will move to April. She reported that Channel 9 will come on Thursday,
March 31, to feature the reopening of the Coal Creek Golf Course after the
fire. There will be a Season Pass Holder Appreciation Day on April 24.
CIPS Update
Lisa Norgard attended the Parks and Public Landscaping Advisory Board
(PPLAB) monthly Zoom meeting to present the RAB CIP list of outdoor rec
amenities. Lisa reported that the committee members were supportive of an
additional tennis court, the addition of pickleball courts, and improved
maintenance of facilities. However, the PPLAB members said that the
construction of pickleball courts may have to go through a Master Plan
process, with review and public input. Kathy Martin added that there will not
be a Master Plan process for at least two more years. RAB members would
like to know if the construction of pickleball courts actually needs to go
through this process.
Kathy Martin reported that the CIPs were turned in last Friday. There will be a
process of review by department directors, and then they go to City Council.
RAB members asked how we can create momentum for desired projects,
many of which have been in discussion and on our wish list for years. Kathy
will contact the City Manager's office to ask how we can best advocate for the
projects. She will let us know if and when there is something that we can do
to support these projects.
