Ellen moved that PPLAB vote to approve the Plan; Laurie seconded. Motion
passed unanimously.
8. Final Scorecard Review and Discussion
• Overall parks received good marks with comments and areas for improvement.
Scorecard submitted to City consultant, who is writing a Parks Management Plan
• Discussion on implementing scorecards for Medians, Subdivision entries, etc.
9. Discussion on Potential Pollinator Bed(s) at Community Park
• Area would be in the old 'BMX' area (adjacent to the band shell)
• ADA accessible: trails with raised beds
• Demonstration beds
• Musical interactive element: outdoor xylophone, wind chimes, etc.
• Educational signs, etc.
• Garden could have the potential to grow over the years; right now the garden will be
within the scope of the irrigation project. Pollinator beds will have pop up sprayers
• Garden may act as a demonstration and proof of concept, giving ideas for other similar
gardens.
• Discussion around mix of native grasses in area adjacent to Bella Vista drive.
10. Discussion on Median Landscape Renovation Designs
• Introduction to topic:
• Landscape architect will be hired to review medians and propose concepts to PPLAB.
Need for additional review due to fire damage. Changing sentiment from original review
several years ago; desire to remove bluegrass sod.
• Shelly Alm via email: Thanks, Dean, for the summary/history of the design concepts. It's
been awhile since this was started! I'm still in agreement with the Preferred Concept
Design for the most part. Low maintenance/low number of plantings along medians
with majority of plantings & color near the noses & key intersections. If possible, tying in
the colorful planters that make downtown so inviting with similar planters near noses
and/or key intersections in appropriate medians. Not sure where things are with any
money that could be coming in from outside resources for fire recovery that could cover
some of the medians that were affected so budgeted city money might go further for
other medians?
11. Review of Recommendation Memo for Bee City USA Designation
• Shelly Alm via email: Looking forward to this!
• John presented information around Bee City and honeybee/pollinator festivals
throughout Colorado. Proposed a local/Louisville festival during the month of June.
