Sustainability Advisory Board Agenda
May 18, 2022
the store might already have bags. Tiff suggested that the grocery stores could
keep them at the customer service desks. Kayla is going to look into this. Kayla
said the state bag tax goes into effect next January and will be 10 cents per bag.
In Louisville, that will mean that businesses will continue to charge 25 cents, 7
cents will go to the state money, and 8 cents will stay local.
Josh asked for an update from the EFC meeting in May. Kayla said in regards to
the Marshall Fire, Xcel infrastructure is going to be built back out, including street
lights. Todd added that Xcel is rebuilding the gas infrastructure into the homes.
Tiff asked if they are going to wait to see if people are electrifying. Kayla said they
are building the system out as they go. There are currently five building permits
submitted. Two are 2018 IECC and three are 2021 IECC. Todd asked if we can
get more data points and a cost analysis for rebuilding. He mentioned that the
data needs to be more localized with builders and wondered if we can capture the
actual costs now that building has begun. Kayla said that SWEEP is collecting
data from builders. Lev asked if the Rebuilding Better website could give
information to those who did not lose their home. Todd mentioned that
EnergySmart may transition this site to those who want information about energy
rebates after the rebuild efforts.
Todd said that two sustainability newsletters were completed in 2021 and asked if
LSAB could include the sustainability newsletter in the City e-newsletter. Kayla
said that we could add a Sustainability Spotlight in the City's e-newsletter and the
City is supportive of this idea. The City e-newsletter has 8,000 subscribers and
the information would reach more people. Kayla asked LSAB to bring
Sustainability Spotlight topic ideas to the next meeting.
7. Discussion Item: 2022 Work Plan 7:00 PM
A. Subcommittee Updates
i. Residential (Todd and Josh): Spring Cleaning Event was a success!
There were 187 mowers recycled, along with blowers and trimmers.
RACQ covered the additional costs over what the three cities
contributed. We needed more volunteers, but it was a success. It was
a lot of work. Lev asked if we could do the event in April next year.
Todd said we'd like to include more commercial lawn equipment next
year and asked if we could do a pilot program for commercial.
