F. Community Park irrigation project is complete and is currently working on 'punch list' <br />items. <br />G. None <br />7. Public Comments on Items Not on Agenda <br />A. Logan and Owen are attending to learn more about the Cottonwood Park plan and <br />Marshall Fire recovery <br />8. Bee City USA <br />A. Guest Anne Gundrum, Park Naturalist from the City of Westminster presented <br />Westminster's Bee City USA program, which has been in place since 2020. <br />i. Nature Programs <br />a. Pollination Week in June introduced daily educational programs for kids <br />• Kids learned, for example, about the symbiotic relationship <br />between Yukka plants and the Yukka Moth, where to find <br />insects, the difference between insects and spiders, etc. <br />ii. Habitat Protection <br />a. Pollinator gardens <br />• Volunteer groups help with maintenance, weeding, etc. <br />b. Restoring open spaces of Standley Lake <br />c. Creating spaces for solitary bees, for example drilling holes in dead <br />wood <br />d. Educational signs and placards <br />e. Apiary: area with bee hives <br />• Bee Club for citizens of Westminster, learning bee keeping, <br />extracting honey, etc. <br />• Educational signage, solitary bee house. City staff designed the <br />signage. <br />f. Property owners are voluntarily creating habitats as well <br />iii. Reduction of Pesticides <br />a. Standley Lake may not use pesticides of any kind due to the Lake's use <br />as a water source <br />• Alternative weed control methods includes goats, planting <br />trees, native plants, etc. <br />iv. Questions: <br />a. Patricia asked if Westminster had any pushback on reduction of <br />pesticide use. Anne hasn't seen a problem, but again Standley Lake has <br />always been restricted from any pesticide use. <br />b. John reiterated enthusiasm for the program, it will be a lot of fun! <br />c. Shelly asked about program creation: Anne creates the programs as the <br />staff naturalist and has assistance from the marketing team for <br />brochures, etc. Westminster has a population of 116,000 so it will be a <br />challenge for Louisville with 20,000 residents but we are excited! <br />4 <br />
