v. Next Steps to becoming a Bee City <br />a. Present Memorandum to City Council: John noted a typo on page 2 Next <br />steps: "...PPLAB along with Staff will begin the application process. <br />PPLAB will then reach out..." <br />b. Abby will work on a date for presenting the Memorandum and <br />Application to City Council <br />c. Ellen and Shelly are excited about the signage possibilities, John has <br />been mapping out short term and longer term priorities. Patricia <br />suggested a poster contest in the area schools to produce signs, indoor <br />advertising, etc. <br />d. Discussion on pollinator gardens: Area in progress with the pond <br />restoration, Open Space pocket prairies, Shelly suggested the <br />Arboretum <br />e. Abby volunteered as the staff liaison <br />9. Median Landscape and Playground project updates <br />A. Medians: Staff is working on the priority area medians within the burn area: Dillon, St. <br />Andrews, McCaslin. Focus will be on xeriscape and natural plantings. <br />i. Design concepts to be presented to PPLAB <br />ii. Historical PPLAB members Ellen, Shelly, Laurie are looking forward to moving <br />forward on this project, which has been in the works since 2018. Shelly asked if <br />the newer members wanted more historical context; new members feel the <br />June meeting provided enough context. <br />iii. Ellen asked if the project to remove dead/moribund trees along McCaslin is still <br />ongoing; Abby said that yes, replanting is in process. <br />iv. Ellen asked about the status of the 30-40 year old Honeylocust trees near Via <br />Appia and South Boulder roads; Abby will provide an update at the next meeting <br />as these trees are not healthy. Staff is reviewing these medians and determining <br />what plants can best be put in this area. <br />B. Playgrounds: Q1 Joe Carnival and Meadows parks; Q3 Enclave, Sunflower parks <br />i. Sunflower Park may use a 'non -playground' feature such as boulders, natural <br />features, etc. <br />ii. Concepts to be presented to PPLAB, community engagement upcoming <br />iii. Shannon asked about how the playground design will come together; Abby and <br />Ellen discussed the process of concepts presented to PPLAB, community <br />engagement, etc. PPLAB recalled the community meeting for the Cottonwood <br />Park Playground which was very positive and had active community <br />involvement from kids and parents alike. <br />iv. Ellen noted that the new median on South Boulder Road has eliminated the left- <br />hand turn lane in to the Cottonwood Park parking lot. <br />10. Cottonwood Park Master Plan <br />5 <br />
