Erin is also working with the city to include library services in the new resident
welcome packet.
Kristen is leading the Welcome All initiative where all library departments are
focusing on codifying excellent customer service characteristics.
Erin explained the library's plan to recognize and plan more diverse events
based on the City Council's Events and Recognitions Calendar. There will be more
events, programs, celebrations, displays and booklists throughout the library to
recognize diversity. Additionally, Kristen is starting a People in my Community
Storytime where different community members will lead story time once a month.
Mayor Stoltzman will begin at the end of September.
Champion Literacy
Emily shared that there will be a recently returned cart of popular items
displayed on story time days so that caregivers have easier access to adult books.
Peggy informed us that her department interfiled all genres. In the adult
section many authors write in many different genres and books have different genres
in them. This way of filing books is more browser friendly and has gotten lots of
positive responses and increased circulation!
$13,000 in American Rescue Plan monies were used to increase diversity of the
entire library collection. In the adult area holiday books across faiths and beliefs
were added. Also, they created a Spanish language collection including fiction,
non-fiction and teen books. A collection was also added for those with memory care
issues. These are adult books on a level those who are impaired can understand. In
the Children's Department more books from world languages were added including
texts in Spanish, Japanese, and Arabic. They also added kits to check out such as
the crime solver kit, rocks and gems, and others. These kits have been very popular
and reaching out to people who can learn in different ways.
Spark Imagination and Learning
Erin shared that the library is going to work on a program known as Bring
Resources to Life. They will share in periodic emails the resources the library has to
offer patrons in an effort to better inform people what is available.
Peggy is working on putting together information about ancestry programs. She
will also organize education on these resources
Kristen updated us on the summer reading program. This year's goal was to
get back to pre-covid activities and participation levels. The adult and teen
participant numbers were above 2019 numbers and children's participant numbers
were close. Programs had more attendees than ever.
Erin shared that there are five different bookmarks to recommend different
types of books where patrons had questions.
