Peggy updated us about the Maker Space. A new librarian was hired in October
of 2021 to focus on the Maker Space. She inventoried all supplies and created a new
vision. In the past it was exclusive (locked a lot) and it focused on make and take
crafts for younger kids. It now also includes electronics and supplies for teen and
adult patrons. It also has a 3D modeling printer. It is a flexible space for meeting
and studying and they will continue to make it a fun, inclusive space.
To conclude this presentation Sharon thanked everyone for all the support -
both financial help from the Foundation and guidance from Board.
B. Library Board of Trustees Report
Helena shared that the Trustees are an advisory board that gets recruited by the City
of Louisville. We are here to support the library, staff, and handle issues. We
maintain the little libraries and communicate with the Foundation. We have
supported the work plan, reviewed library by-laws, and listened to staff guidance.
We bring in input. The Board is also required to approve policies. We have a
Superior representative, too, and the Superior Community center has a really great
library satellite.
C. Louisville Public Library Foundation Report
Steve shared that the Library Foundation was formed in 1979 and is a non-profit,
community -based organization. Its mission is to build support and raise money for
the library's programs and services. There are eight members on the Board and they
want to recruit new members.
Primary donations and support have gone to books and materials, summer reading
program, makerspace, Read Baby Read program, Children's area aquarium, mobile
hotspots, and other programming.
Fundraising efforts include used book sales, utility billing insert each fall, Colorado
Gives, and grants and direct contributions.
Library materials
2020 - $17,400
2021 - $29,200
2022 - $17,400
