Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
January 30, 2023
Dalia asks if the social media will just be on the City website or will it be more on
Facebook and Instagram?
Haley says she thinks they will be looking more on Facebook, Instagram, and
Twitter. Putting the social media links on the City website would be important.
Burg mentions the February conference and how this falls into meeting our
ongoing training criteria.
Haley mentions the importance of ongoing training, especially for the new
members. She wonders how this would fall in priority level.
Brackett Hogstad says if there are a couple people that are interested in this,
that could start in quarter one or two. The state is available for webinars and
presentations in regards to education.
Dunlap mentions adding work plan agendas that could last 10-15 min for the
monthly meetings.
Brackett Hogstad says the subcommittees can determine what they want to do
and the frequency of them.
Keller says he does not mind being a part of that subcommittee and making a
plan of what and when they want to having training this year.
Burg says is important to her to up the grant amounts.
Dalia says he is interested in being a part of that discussion and brings up the
topic of surveys.
Zuccaro talks about a survey the staff conducted in 2019. We could go back and
review that survey and that could better inform the commission for a future
survey.
Burg says she is interested in participating in the subcommittee.
Dunlap discusses the user experience and getting statistics on why some people
go through the first step of the grant process but do not continue.
Brackett Hogstad discusses a realistic timeline of the grant process for this year
with the commission.
Keller says he does not mind being on this subcommittee.
Dalia says he is also interested in being a part of this subcommittee.
Dunlap asks if a subcommittee is necessary versus having a study session with
the entire commission.
Haley says she is in favor of a subcommittee and discusses why.
Brackett Hogstad brings up that some barriers are beyond our control such as
building material costs.
Haley mentions outreach and makes a distinction being proactive versus focused
outreach.
Dalia says he thinks focused outreach is targeting a specific audience.
Haley says the proactive outreach involves more of a broad, community
audience including events.
Brackett Hogstad mentions that a proactive outreach item is the landmark
plaque ceremony. She says the plaque ceremony could be more of a community
outreach as well instead of for specific property owners.
Haley says the plaque ceremony could be more of a party and celebration.
Burg says this would be something that we would need to work on in quarter
two.
