SWIMMING POOL HOURS CONTID

present their questions.
Councilman DelPizzo remarked the concern
was the hours the swimming pool is opened
to the general public, and those that are
reserved for the swim team. It appears
there are two nights out of a week on which
the people of the community have access to
the pool after 5:00 P.M.; while the swim
team has the pool for most of the week from
5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Can the hours be
changed so that the people of the commun-
ity be given more access to the people?
Mr. Helart stated the pool was not reserved
for the swim team from 5:00 P.M. till 9:00 ~M
at any time. The swim team uses the time
when the lifeguards are eating from 5:00 P.M.
to 6:00 P.M. The remaining nights that the
pool is not open during the week is due to
the fact that the attendance level does not
warrant paying the costs involved. The pool
is available Tuesday, Thursday, Satlurday
and Sunday and could be open if the demand
is there.
Councilman Caranci remarked he had read the
schedul and it looks as though we have
$300,000.00 country club there for a few
people. It seems the best time to swim is
in the morning and that time is taken up by
the swim team, or when we come home at
5:00 P.M. it is closed again due to the swim
team. My suggestion is that the swim team
use the pool from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. and
open to the public from 10:00 A.M. till
7:00 P.M.
Mr. Helart advised Councilman Carance that
the morning hours are not for the swim team
but for swimming lessons. Our sign-up and
demand rate for swimming lessons has been
far more than the demand for opening the
pool to public swimming in the mornings.
The swim team practices twice daily - once
in the morning between 7:00 and 8:00 A.M.
and in the afternoon between 5:00 and
6:00 P.M. The evening hours available for
public swimming are Tuesday, Thursday, Sat-
urday and Sunday, in addition to Wednesday
and Friday as printed on the schedule. .There
is no problem with having the pool open
during the evening hours, other than the
fact that it does not break even.
Councilman Caranci stated that the pool is
being paid for by the citizens of Louisville
by a 3mill levy, and it was his opinion
they should be able to use the pool in the
morning hours and evening hours.
