Landscaped Medians <br /> 1) Place landscape medians between every other parking bay in lots for <br /> more than 1 O0 cars. (S) <br /> 2) l,andscape medians should he 12 feet wide, including a 4-foot concrete <br /> sidewalk. (S) Where walkways in medians will not be utilized, the <br /> medians may be reduced to a width of 8 feet. (G) <br /> 3) Provide a minimum of 1 canopy shade tree aiid § sln,,ba for each 30 <br /> lineal feet of median. (S) In addition to trees: plant each island with <br /> either a minimum of 8 shrubs per 30 lineal feet or a durable and hardy <br /> ground cover_ (S) <br /> 4) The use of landscape medians is encouraged as a transition slope <br /> between parking bays on hillside parking lots (maximum sloPe of 4:1). <br /> (G) <br />J. Where head-in parking occurs, locate all shrubs a minimum of 3 feet from <br /> the edge of the parking lot curb. (S) <br /> <br />5.4 Building Site Landscaping <br /> <br />Policy: <br />The coordination of landscape design for individual building sites and larger, <br />multi-parcel projects is essential for creating a consistent, high-quality character. <br />A coordinated design unifies the various buildings and strengthens the <br />cohesiveness of the development. Individual landscape treatments for building <br />sites should compliment the roadway landscapes, create distinctive settings for <br />buildings, reinforce the design of the open space systems, and provide amenities <br />for pedestrians. <br /> <br />Standards and Guidelines: <br /> A. Use landscaping that is of appropriate scale relative to the proposed <br /> adjacent structures. <br /> B. Intensify landscaping at building entrances. (G) <br /> C. Provide a minimum planting width of 6 feet adjacent to the building and <br /> plant no less than 25% of the building perimeter with multi-stemmed <br /> ornamental trees, shrubs, perennial flowers, and ground cover. (S) <br /> Emphasis should be given to landscaping along the front building <br /> elevation. (G) Provide additional landscaping around the perimeter of <br /> buildings to soften the edge between sidewalks/parking lots and structures. <br /> (G) To promote irrigation efficiency, no single landscaned area shall he <br /> less than 100 snuare feet: with the excention of deciduous trees planted in <br /> grates_ <br /> D. Protect landscaping from vehicular and pedestrian encroachments with <br /> raised planting surfaces, depressed walks, and/or curbs. (G) <br /> <br />6 <br /> <br /> <br />
