<br />I mplcmentation Strategy <br /> <br />Design of an enhanced pedestrian undcqnlss that connects the Ihvy. 42 <br />core area with the Historic Downtown <br /> <br />Step #1: <br /> <br />Coordinate with RTD to continn that BNSF will allow a pedestrianunde'lJass to connect <br />the Hwy. 42 core area with the downtown. <br /> <br />Sten #2: <br /> <br />Coordinate with RTD and its contractors to determine the size and scope of an underpass <br />as well as any design work that bas been done, etc. <br /> <br />Stcp #3: <br /> <br />RFP and securc an Undctvass Design Consultant Team: <br /> <br />Landscape/ urban design and engineering skills are required. Request consultant provide <br />no less than three 3 alternative plans, with associated costs, to design and construct an <br />underpass at Short Street, as well as gateway features on both points of entry. The design <br />altematives should include: <br /> <br />. A spectrum of designs and costs from simple to more clabo rate that can fit within <br />the confines of the spaec allowed by BNSF for a pedestrian underpass <br />. Description of alternative features and evaluation of each <br />· Infrastructure costs associated with the construction of the unde'lJass itself(ie are <br />there flood plain issues, ROW or access issues, BNSF requirements) <br />. Unde'lJass connections that range in height and widtb <br />. Design elements such as paving, lighting, building materials, landscaping. etc. <br />. Design features at major entry ways within the urban rcnewal area <br />· Evaluate opportunities for pedestrian underpasses at Short Street as well as other <br />options. <br /> <br />Commencement Date: First quarter 2009 <br />Targeted Date of Completion: Third quarter 2009 <br />
