A councilor voiced a concern about the impact on trail users.
Council and staff discussed dead -zones in the siren coverage area. One dead
zone at the center of old town could be addressed with the use of the Memory
Square Siren. Another zone is at CTC, which could activate an intercom system
when the siren is sounding. A member of the public stated that the dead zone is
not of concern, as the sound waves of the two sirens that intersect would provide
audible sound for warnings. Council asked under what circumstances the
emergency sirens would be utilized. Staff indicated the following: transportation
accidents, hazardous material spills /leaks, and tornadoes.
Council comments: Councilor Sackett stated that decisions should not be based
on who objects.
