A councilor voiced a concern about the impact on trail users. <br />Council and staff discussed dead -zones in the siren coverage area. One dead <br />zone at the center of old town could be addressed with the use of the Memory <br />Square Siren. Another zone is at CTC, which could activate an intercom system <br />when the siren is sounding. A member of the public stated that the dead zone is <br />not of concern, as the sound waves of the two sirens that intersect would provide <br />audible sound for warnings. Council asked under what circumstances the <br />emergency sirens would be utilized. Staff indicated the following: transportation <br />accidents, hazardous material spills /leaks, and tornadoes. <br />Council comments: Councilor Sackett stated that decisions should not be based <br />on who objects. Councilor Muckle stated that the staff should be responsive to <br />resident's concerns and working on solutions. <br />Geographic Information System (GIS) Development and Implementation <br />Susan Dellinger presented information about the benefits and uses of a GIS. <br />Highlighted points: <br />Larger maps with layers of information <br />Visible single point of entry /access for information <br />Associated information available in the same visual location <br />Consistency with all information within the City of Louisville <br />Wards could be balanced with census data <br />Significant reduction in staff time <br />Compliment the sign regulations of the US DOT <br />Calculate CIP information <br />Determine property type and maintenance required <br />Data could be accepted from many other reliable sources and utilized <br />Better Customer Service <br />Increase grant opportunities <br />Numerous future applications <br />Muckle stated that mine shaft locations and historic properties could also be <br />included in the GIS. <br />
