Transportation <br />demand <br />management <br />(TDM) is a policy <br />tool to lower <br />demand for <br />automobile usage. <br />By creating viable <br />transportation <br />alternatives to <br />automobiles <br />through better bus <br />systems, more <br />bicycle lanes, and <br />better sidewalks <br />individuals will <br />pursue more <br />non automobile <br />travel options. <br />This Access -a -Ride bus <br />helps individuals with <br />disabilities access public <br />transportation. <br />Multimodal Transportation System <br />Why? Many citizens of Boulder <br />County do not live, work, and <br />play in the same place. They <br />rely on the county transporta- <br />tion system to get around —the <br />road, bicycle, bus, and walking <br />networks. For this reason, the <br />transportation system plays a <br />key role in helping us <br />1 participate in daily activities and <br />maintaining our lifestyles. <br />BY BA AB 0 <br />Why? Transportation is part of <br />our daily lives; we need to move <br />from place to place. Using cars as <br />the primary mode of travel sig- <br />nificantly contributes to the 24% <br />of greenhouse gas (GHG) emis- <br />sions produced by transportation <br />in Boulder County. Creating a <br />sustainable transportation system <br />focused on providing different <br />ways to move people will create <br />opportunities for travel that are <br />Why? Income, age, and mobility <br />status all influence how easy it is <br />to get around and participate in <br />life's ac- <br />tivities, <br />such as <br />work and <br />school. <br />For ex- <br />ample, <br />How? Boulder County is <br />proposing to create a more reli- <br />able and resilient transportation <br />system by providing various <br />options for efficient and easy <br />transportation. This means <br />designing corridors and making <br />improvements —for bicycles, <br />pedestrians, vehicles, and <br />transit —for getting people where <br />they need to go. A sustainable trans- <br />portation system not only means <br />driving less, but also transitioning <br />to different technologies that <br />consume less energy and use less <br />petroleum —a non renewable, <br />finite resource. <br />How? In order to reduce single <br />occupant vehicle (SOV) travel <br />while increasing use of other <br />modes of transportation, Boulder <br />Transportation Accessibility for All <br />children need safe ways to walk <br />to school. People who cannot <br />drive need transit facilities that <br />are easy to get to and comfort- <br />able to wait in. <br />How? Boulder County is pro- <br />posing to provide transportation <br />options to people with different <br />travel needs by creating and <br />continuing programs that make <br />multimodal transportation 1 <br />system will allow for the most <br />efficient integration of all trans- <br />portation modes to most <br />efficiently move people. <br />Boulder County is also <br />committed to working with the <br />communities within the county <br />and other agencies to develop a <br />multimodal system. <br />County is proposing that the <br />county establish goals for reduc- <br />ing vehicle miles traveled (VMT), <br />implement <br />programs to <br />encourage the public to use new <br />technologies for travel that use <br />fuel more efficiently, and plan <br />infrastructure needs to <br />accommodate new travel <br />technologies. <br />transportation easily affordable <br />and accessible to all.
