REVISED SIGN PROGRAM
Paul Wood, Planning Director, stated that the applicant was requesting three principal modifications,
to their sign program. One is basically the sign face, more rectangular shaped with green background
with white letters rather than a blue background. Second, relocation of a sign, 50 s.f from the east
to the west building elevation due to visibility enhancement. Third, is to add a 100 s.f sign to the
south elevation of the building. On October 14, Planning Commission held a public hearing and
conditionally approved a recommendation to forward this to City Council. The recommendation was
to allow a new wall sign not to exceed 75 s.f with a letter height of 21.3. The applicant was
requesting 100 s.f. The second condition was that the second tower sign be eliminated from the sign
program.
Davidson called for the applicant's presentation.
Bonnie Lutz, LaQuinta corporate offices, San Antonio, Texas, stated that the request for changes in
the new signage package were for visibility and a new corporate logo. She reiterated their need for
100 s.f for the sign on the side of the building for visibility.
Davidson called for Council questions or comments.
Keany complained about the banner which hangs from their building and violates sign code.
Lathrop thought their request was quite reasonable.
Mayer preferred the Planning Commission's recommendation.
Lathrop moved that Council approve Resolution No. 48, Series 1997, amending the Final PUD
Development Plan for LaQuinta with the amendment to condition No. 1 of 100 s.f. sign (rather than
75 s.f) for a total of 199 s.f of signage, seconded by Keany. Roll call was taken. Motion passed by
a 4 1 vote with Mayer voting against and Howard and Levihn being absent.
