B.Fire lanes shall be at least 20 feet wide, but may be reduced to 16 feet wide upon <br />application to and approval of the city. Fire lane width requirements may be increased by <br />the city where normal widths are inadequate for fire or rescue operations. <br />C.The center of fire lanes at buildings shall be no more than 30 feet nor less than 20 feet <br />from the building, and all such lanes shall have an unobstructed outside turning radius of <br />no less than 45 feet and an inside turning radius of no less than 32 feet. <br />D.There shall be no overhead obstructions lower than 15 feet on fire lanes or side <br />obstructions closer than five feet from the outer edges of fire lanes. <br />E.Fire lanes shall be designed and constructed of hard surface suitable to withstand the <br />weight of fire apparatus, and such surfaces must be able to support the weight of the <br />heaviest fire apparatus of the fire district serving the property. <br />F.An emergency access fire lane which is required to be installed into an area as a <br />secondary access must be as remote as possible from the main access and provide access <br />to all parts of the development. No emergency access fire lane shall exceed 300 feet in <br />length. <br />Sec. 15.12.130. Placement of fire hydrants. <br />A. Fire hydrants shall be placed at each street intersection and on each side of any divided <br />highway, roadway or street, wherever possible. <br />B. In a residential area, there shall be no more than 500 feet of vehicle travel distance <br />between hydrants. No residential unit shall be more than 250 feet of vehicle travel <br />distance from the nearest hydrant. <br />C. In multifamily, industrial, business or commercial areas, there shall be no more than 300 <br />feet of vehicle travel distance between hydrants. No building shall be more than 150 feet <br />of travel distance from the nearest hydrant. <br />D. All water mains serving two or more fire hydrants shall have a looped water distribution <br />system with approved sectional valves being provided. <br />E. The barrel of a fire hydrant shall be set perpendicular to the ground or the designed final <br />grade with the lowest discharge outlet 18 inches above grade. <br />F. A minimum of three feet of clearance space shall be maintained around the <br />circumference of a fire hydrant except as otherwise required or approved by the city. <br /> 13 <br /> <br />
