Projecting signs must maintain 8 feet of clearance from the ground. <br />ii. The maximum size of a project sign is 6 square feet <br />iii. Symbols are encouraged <br />iv. A projecting sign may extend no further than 6 feet from the <br />building façade or a distance equal to two-thirds the width of the <br />abutting sidewalk whichever distance is less. <br />v. Awning signs are permitted. <br />McMillan reported staff met with the following business/property owners to hear <br />their opinions of the downtown sign code: <br /> Deb Krueger, DBA board member, owner of Cray Horse II Salon <br /> Andrew Muller, downtown property owners <br /> Arlin Lehman, DBA board member, downtown property owner <br /> Ronda Grassi, DBA board member, owner of CADCO, Inc. <br /> Mark Zaremba, DBA board member, owner of Zaremba Graphic and Wed <br />Solutions <br />Commission Questions of Staff: <br />Russell requested additional information regarding the 2-foot height limit. <br />McCartney stated it was a design feature established a long time ago. <br />Brauneis discussed awning signs with staff. <br />Lipton discussed the technical aspect of signs regarding pedestrian scale vs. <br />vehicle scale. <br />McMillan stated scale is based on character and walkability. <br />McCartney stated the downtown has historically been established for walkability; <br />therefore signs have the character and size for walkability. <br />O’Connell asked if there is a minimum or maximum number of signs that is <br />allowed. <br />McMillan stated there is not a minimum or maximum number but the signs are <br />regulated by total square footage. <br />Michael Menaker, 1827 W. Chokecherry Dr, Louisville gave a power point <br />presentation titled “A Fresh Look at Signs”. The majority of the slides were <br />picture examples of different types and styles of signs. He concluded by stating <br />the next steps should include: <br /> Downtown Business Roundtable discussion <br /> Study session with City Council <br /> Meeting with Business Retention and Development (BRaD) <br />Lipton requested a 5-minute break at 7:30 PM. <br /> <br />
