--,.
same time that would answer your question would be,
do people support the Northwest Parkway concept. It
is a defined route, it is substantially different from W-
470, yet it provides the access to the airport that you are
talking about. Then maybe the Council could get the
feel for one versus another. Maybe that would give us
the feel for, okay, do people in general support the
concept of a road.
Howard: This isn't a question, it is more in terms of a statement.
Looking at all of these things it sounds to me, John, like
you are asking to put on two more questions onto the
ballot and that would give it an additional three
questions. I think three questions would be a little too
much. I could go for something that boils it down to
two questions, like the Authority on one hand and
maybe something to say about the road on the other,
but I still think what Margaret said was valid. If you
start putting too many things out there it becomes
extremely confusing.
Carnival: The questions this evening seem to be questions that
would be better asked at a more appropriate time. You
know, this Council stood for the beltway and now we
are asking the voters if they stand for the beltway. As
far as I am concerned it is a mute point right now
because there is no beltway. The same with W-470, you
know this Council either stood or didn't stand for W-
470 depending on which vote you looked at, but there
is no W-470 now. Even though the alignment and
funding discussions were done way back when there is
nothing happening right now. If we are going to ask the
people for something; one, you're going to have to go
out and inform them and I don't believe we could go
out and inform our constituents of the pros and cons of
either the W -4 70 highway or the beltway highway; or
being in the highway or not being in the highway
authority. All of these questions, I think are relevant
but there is an appropriate time to have that discussion
or put these on the ballot and ask the citizens of
Louisville where they stand. I realize that the reason we
are choosing or may choose to put it on the ballot issue
in November is because it is free. We have an election
8
--
