--.,
The Final Development Plan is for a 7500 sq. ft. freestanding commercial building which
will be occupied by Blockbuster Video store and a future unnamed tenant.
The Planning Commission has reviewed this request and has adopted Resolution No. 18,
Series 1991, which recommends approval.
Szymanski: I have a letter that was given to me that they wanted on
the record from the Village Square Business
Association. "We as an association, as members of the
business community and as citizens of this City are
sending this tonight to speak out against changes made
to the zoning of the new center. The success of this
new shopping center can only be measured in terms of
additional sales tax dollars brought into this City. It is
only new tax dollars that will mean anything. The
shopping center has already gone through the planning
process. The developers have represented to the
Planning Commission and the City Council what their
plans were for this once pastoral piece of buffer
property. They have now found out that no restaurant
is interested in this property. This only helps to
hammer home a point that we as business people who
have worked in this area for many years already know,
that we still do not possess the demographics to support
more competing businesses. We can only surmise that
the developers really do not care what they bring to this
center and that their only goal is to get it filled, get it
financed and get out of town. You as our City Council
have the power to send the developers a message, "bring
us businesses that we need as a community." If you
allow this rezoning there will be a zero effect on the
City's sales tax revenue. Ask yourself this, how many
video outlets does this town really need. In our minds
the answer is easy, not another one. Thank you for
your time the Village Square Business Association."
They wanted that on public record.
Hornbostel: Mr. Cudlip, what is the building that is going up on the
very end, the one that is so tall and has a retaining wall?
Cudlip: That is a 10,000 sq. ft. retail building that was approved
at the original...
10
