Butterbaugh: I'll give a brief overview of the improvements that are
to be included in the proposed project. Kip explained
that the project area will cover Spruce Street from
Front to Main and then two blocks of Main Street from
Pine to Walnut. Included in the project will be storm
sewer that will be installed along Spruce Street from
Front Street to Main Street. The storm sewer will be
continued up Main to the intersection of Walnut. Inlets
will be installed at each of the intersections and at other
points where necessary. Also included will be the total
replacement of sidewalks, curb and gutter and street
pavement from store front to store front on each of
these blocks. Also, included will be the widening of the
sidewalks along Main and Spruce, the exact width of
those sidewalks have not yet been determined.
Extensions of the curb and gutter and sidewalk at the
corners at the two intersections of Main and Spruce and
Main and Walnut. These will be extended to provide
more user friendly crossing areas at these intersections.
Once we receive approval and the design process has
begun for the project, access issues and construction
phasing for the project will be incorporated and
addressed at that time. Those are the improvements
that will be included in the proposed project.
Margaret: If you widen the sidewalks are we going to have parking
on Main Street?
Beckmann: Yes.
Carnival: Mr. Mayor, is there anyone from the Task Force that
can give us an overall picture of what we might be
expecting of the downtown area through the
conversations that they mayor may not have been
having with the merchants?
Beckmann: I think the principal thing that you are going to see is
very little in the way of cosmetics. From what we have
been told from downtown people, that attended our
meetings including some of you folks up there and of
course, including Percy, the bottom line is we can't do
too much cosmetics until we get this done. So you
won't see physically a lot of changes but you will have
a first step of some cosmetics and you will have some of
5
