--,.
Beckmann: The Task Force wholeheatedly supports that
recommendation. Our constraint was a dollar one and
we tried to work within those dollars.
Carnival: I would encourage you to get the numbers and bring it
back and request funding from the next Council to do
exactly that. To get it all done at one time, so that
when all the undergrounding is done that the merchants
can finally see some cosmetic things that John was
referring to.
Oliver: This plan does include laying the ground work for
piping so that the undergrounding can be done without
tearing the street up again.
Brand: The Task Force was charged with bringing a
recommendation to you in December. If you approve
it you can authorize us to go ahead and start the design
work on this so that the work can be done in the early
spring. When the design work is actually done and we
know the exact cost, there will be an opportunity for
more refinement. These are the first priorities and as
Tom has mentioned we are meeting with Public Service
on Friday. This is the conceptual recommendation. We
will then begin to do the design and schedule for
implementation, if you approve it this evening.
Davidson: Does the conduit that you are going to put underground
for future power cables also include the telephone and
the cable TV? Does it also include conduit to run to
future street light locations, if we go to a more scenic
type?
Phare: If we underground conduit we have to underground it
all. It doesn't make sense to do just portions of it.
Unfortunately, the telephone and cable TV doesn't
come out of the undergrounding allowance from Public
Service. That would mean cash out of our project fund.
I still think we can get it all done in those three blocks
if we get the underground sleeve ready to go in the
future. That is subject to further refinement as we get
into the project. We will need to get more firm
estimates and concepts for what we are doing.
S
