Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
April 19, 2010

Lewis expressed her involvement with this project in that she provided design
assistance.
Gary Rothenburg stated the L-shape of the proposed design allows for a private
backyard.
Stewart stated the connection to the existing house is pretty minimal and asked if
this compromised the floor plan.
Rothenburg stated there is not a compromise required.
Stewart asked if there was going to be a garage.
Rothenburg stated there will be a garage and the access will come from the
alley.
Stewart recommended using some of the architectural forms on the existing
building for the new building to tie them together.
Muckle asked if they tried to run the addition in the same direction (roofline) as
the existing building.
Rotheburg answered yes but they wanted to create a backyard.
Poppitz stated he liked the project and recommended to create a false gable over
the front door of the new addition.
Muckle asked for them to please match the existing roof pitch.
Koertje asked if this needs to come back to HPC for the addition.
McCartney stated only if 50% or more of the walls or roof are removed.
Pre-filing Conference - 701 Main Street (old Waveform building)
The applicant, Chad Sholders, gave a presentation of what he would like to do to
the building (outdoor patio, canopy over portion of the patio, railing around patio).
Muckle stated her appreciation for the project and liked that it would retain the
gas station look.
Poppitz agreed.
Lewis made the following suggestions:

Look at old photos to see what is vital to save and what is not.

Consider rollup windows

Consider using light and removable awnings so that the building can be
brought back to original form.
Sholders answered he expects to only use items that can be removed.
