Historic Preservation Commission
Meeting Minutes
June 15, 2009

McCartney stated staff will poll the Planning Commission at the next Planning
Commission meeting (July 9) to have them select two (2) representatives.

Committee Reports

Community Outreach
Tofte suggested the Commission work on something for community outreach
once a month. She suggested that maybe we could place an article in the
Community Update – the next one is in September. She recommended that
maybe the Commission could put in the preservation awards from July. Include
photos of each house (if room permits).

Tofte also suggested including a float in the Labor Day Parade.

Lewis suggested miniature horses for the parade.

Tofte stated that a friend of hers has a miniature house from Tiny Town.

Muckle stated that she sent out ideas for public outreach last month. One of the
suggestions was education for realtors.

Koertje recommended the Commission provide ideas for the website by next
meeting.

Stewart suggested the Commission include a link between projects under review
by the Planning Department and the HPC website.

Design Assistance
Lewis asked what type of addition a person can do to their house that does not
jeopardize their National Registry status.

Tofte answered the requirements are pretty detailed.

Koertje stated the person can contact the State Historical Preservation Office for
assistance.

Stewart stated they could also follow the Secretary of Interior Standards.

Mine Markers
Muckle passed out a list of the 16 mine markers that she recommends be placed
throughout the City of Louisville. Muckle stated she is working with Bridget
Bacon, curator of the Museum, to research each site. Muckle recommends the
Commission start with the ACME and Fireside mines (#1 and #7 on the list).
Muckle also stated the Commission needs more institutional knowledge from the
long time Louisville residents.
